Someone fetch us a flux capacitor and fix up our DeLorean so we can fly back to January! We’re over halfway through 2022, and unless you’ve been hiding under a rock, there’s been more games to play than we’ve had hot dinners.
Whilst we’ve been busy in our workshop bringing you the best gaming accessories for Nintendo, PlayStation, and Xbox, we’ve also been clocking up serious hours on playing games too.
If you’re looking for something new to play or are just diving in and need somewhere to start, here’s our favourite games of 2022 – so far! Charge up your controllers, pull on your headsets and get ready to play.
Horizon: Forbidden West
Good things come to those who wait, and Horizon ForbiddenWest is definitely worth it. After five years of impatiently waiting, we finally got to continue the story of young hunter Aloy to find the source of a mysterious plague that kills all it infects.
Just like Mass Effect 2 and Uncharted 2 before it, Horizon Forbidden West is an example of how sequels take solid games and combine them with new elements to make something special.
If you like explosive combat against robotic foes, blockbuster action sequences, and settlements filled with side quests to solve; this game is for you.
Elden Ring
Remember that scene in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets where Dobby keeps hitting himself with the lamp? Playing Elden Ring is like being Dobby, punishing yourself over and over. Only it’s fun, kind of.
Despite it’s difficulty setting being one of the hardest video games has even seen, this spiritual successor to Dark Souls is video gaming at it’s finest. Journey as a Tarnished through the Lands Between – a world inspired by original work from Game Of Throne’s author George R.R. Martin - and conquer demigods to become the Elden Lord.
There’s little hand holding here. Elden Ring is yours to make your own. If expansive, open worlds are your cup of tea, you’ll want to get playing right away.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land
In a year as wild as this one, the return of everyone’s favourite pink platforming hero Kirby is a welcome one. Easily the best sinceKirby’s Epic Yarn – way back on the Nintendo Wii in 2011 – Kirby and theForgotten Land is the first adventure on Planet Popstar in full 3D.
On a quest to save the Waddle Dees from the Beast Pack, you’ll have so much fun jumping, sliding and inhaling your way through obstacles, enemies and objects, unlocking brand new abilities along the way.
After a long day of empowering gamers, Kirby and theForgotten Land is exactly what we need.
Olli Olli World
Forget about grinding half-pipes in the air hangar with TonyHawks, it’s time to get colourful, cartoony and character-centric in Radlandia with Olli Olli World.
With more customisation options than social media hasNetflix spoilers, you create your own oddball character to skate through this world of eye-popping pinks and giant donuts.
Olli Olli World is like a warm hug, reminding you that skateboarding games can be wonderfully relaxing and chaotically fun all at once. With so many paths to explore, combos to create, and experiences to unlock; you’ll be playing for hours, days, weeks…forever.
Gran Turismo 7
If you’ve ever wanted a masterclass in racing simulators, Gran Turismo 7 is the one for you. Unlike other racing games like Forza, which elevate you right to the top, Gran Turismo 7 has you grind your way to the grid, let alone the podium.
You’ll unlock licences, wash your cars, perform oil checks, and save up tediously to buy new vehicles from secondhand dealers. But the pay-off is so powerful, you’ll keep doing it. Oh, and did we mention it’s beautiful. Sometimes we’re midway through a race before we realise we’re playing a game and not actually rocketing around The Nürburgring.
Fall Guys
Before you go shooting us down like we’re in Red Dead Redemption’s Wild West, we know Fall Guys came out in 2020.
But it’s only just been made available for Nintendo Switch and Xbox Series X/S gamers this year, so let us have our moment.
Playing Fall Guys is a lot like spending Christmas with the family: absolute chaos in the best possible way. A little like Takeshi Castle gone wild, you’ll take on up to 59 other players through a series of challenges and mini-games. Your goal is simple: stay in and win.
You’ll slip, you’ll slide, you’ll scream with laughter. We’ll see you on it!
