Kart racing games mostly have the same style mechanics - racing in karts and hitting boxes to unlock power ups to help yourself or screw over the other players. Mario Kart however has dominated the market when it comes to kart racing games. But it's not all about Mario and his friends (and enemies) if you want to enjoy some racing games. Crash Team Racing
Possibly the most well known alternative to Mario Kart has to be Crash Team Racing. Originally released in 2009 and remastered in 2019 love for this game has definitely re surged and should be the top of any list for Kart Racing Games.
Diddy Kong Racing
Originally released on Nintendo 64 in 1997 - and remastered for Nintendo DS in 2007 - Diddy Kong Racing still deserves some recognition. It stands as Nintendo 64's eighth best-selling game and inspired a Donkey Kong Racing which was sadly cancelled.
Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed
SEGA really went for it when it came to combining their beloved characters into one game. Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed marked the fourth instalment in their SEGA superstars series and the eighth racing game in the Sonic franchise. The game even received a nomination for Best Racing Game of 2012.
Konami Krazy Racers
Konami Krazy Racers is another kart racing game that connects franchises made by the same company. Players can play as characters from games such as Castlevania, Metal Gear, and Gradius. Originally a Gameboy Advance game Konami Krazy Racers is now available on iOS and Android.
