We are going to take a look at some of the best DLC (downloadable content) packs to ever be released on console or PC.

The Witcher 3: Blood & Wine

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was so good that it won multiple Game of the Year awards. A game of the year edition was later released that actually included both DLC packs, Hearts of Stone and Blood & wine.But before this, Blood & Wine was released separately as downloadable content for the original game, receiving resoundingly positive feedback. This expansion went above and beyond, adding over 30 hours of new gameplay, a new area to be explored as well as multiple new quests, weapons and monsters. Witcher fans rejoiced, with more new content than they could've dreamed of.

Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare

Red Dead Redemption is another game that won awards and was highly praised in the gaming community. The original game had hours and hours of content for players to get stuck into and enjoy.The Undead Nightmare expansion bought the map and characters of RDR back to life, literally, with the addition of zombies and a new storyline for our favourite video game protagonist John Marston to battle through and end the nightmare.

The Last of Us: Left Behind

Many would question whether The Last of Us could ever be improved with extra content, and we don't blame you. It's a great game. The extension ‘Left Behind’ had such a good reception though that it was later re-released as a standalone title.The story follows Ellie as she retrieves medical supplies for an injured Joel inside an abandoned mall. She must avoid the infected as she discovers a downed military helicopter and a Medi-Kit.We also see more of Ellie’s time with Riley, a friend before meeting Joel, set 3 weeks before the events in The Last of Us. The two head to an abandoned mall as Riley shares news with Ellie of her moving away. They play and dance and eventually attract the attention of some infected. They do their best to escape but (spoiler) it doesn't end well.This expansion doesn't include as much combat as the original title but instead gives heavy focus to the narrative and exploration of the mall.

GTA IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony

The Ballad of Gay Tony was an expansion pack for the hugely popular GTA IV, a game that was already pretty expansive, with a detailed and addictive storyline.The story is set in the same period and city as the main story so it gives players another perspective on the events and lots more content to immerse themselves in. There's even a new mission scoring system, which wasn't a part of the main game itself.So that concludes our list of favourite DLC packs! As game publishers rely more and more on in-game transactions and digital downloads, we're set to see more and more additional content added retrospectively, but we're not mad about it!What are your favourites?
